(JTA) — The son of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel was robbed and assaulted outside his home.
Zach Emanuel, 17, was put in a chokehold and robbed of his cell phone up the street from his home on Friday night.
The family left the following day on a long-planned vacation, the Chicago Tribune reported, citing the mayor’s spokesman.
Emanuel, whose father is Chicago’s first Jewish mayor and a former aide in the Obama and Clinton administrations, was talking on his cell phone near his Ravenswood neighborhood home when he was attacked and robbed.
The two male assailants forced him to enter his security code and unlock his phone.
The teen was treated for cuts and bruises by a doctor who visited his home, according to the newspaper. His tooth also was chipped, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The mayor has around-the-clock security. It is not known where the detail was at the time of the robbery.
